Dobson’s Marquee and Party Hire Ltd emerged from within the Dobson’s Trim and Canvas Ltd business in 2005.  Originally Darryl Dobson, being a canvas fabricator, decided to make a small party size marquee.  This meant that people could hire it to setup in their back yard and by the time they bought a few beers and turned on a BBQ they could have a good  party. This became so popular that soon our clients were asking for tables and chairs and bigger marquees for weddings etc.

Although our business was based in Hawera we have always operated throughout Taranaki.  As the business grew so did the demand for us to be more accessible to our New Plymouth market.  2005 saw Dobson’s Marquee and Party Hire Limited open on Gill Street with the bulk of the marquees and storage remaining in Hawera.

It soon became apparent that we needed to reproduce the same fantastic facility that we had in South Taranaki at a new location in New Plymouth. In 2011 we moved to our new building located at 13 Oropuriri Road, New Plymouth where we now operate Dobson’s Marquee and Party Hire Ltd and Dobson Trim and Canvas. This has been a challenge but also exciting to now be able to supply our clients  throughout the Taranaki region with a complete product and planning service for all wedding and events.   Our canvas design and manufacture business continues to fabricate high quality, all weather protection such as outdoor awnings, outdoor curtains and blinds, vehicle interiors, seats and cover’s including trailers, industrial and commercial covers, bags and kits etc, as well as marine covers and sunshades.
